I just want to point out that I wasnt kidding when I said I want to do Whitehouse for this thing. I did manage to post in the 'clarification' thread before the deadline, plus our set is less than 8 minutes.
A little bit, but more so I think the issues is having enough equipment. And do we run both stages through the same PA? Cause then we're losing a bunch of time moving mics and stuff back and forth. Which defeats the point of two stages.
Also, it might be distracting having bands set up, while others are playing.
I just feel like it's a bit of a logistical nightmare. The best solution is everybody making sure they keep their sets short, and getting a quick turn-around between bands. Which is why there's a backline.
The thought is that it seems sort of distracting. Like, I'm watching Drake right? And, like, KISS is setting up right next to it, right? And I'm distracted, right?
next year maybe we design the room so the second stage is behind the audience when the first stage is active. its less distracting. two P.A.s. since the second stage is probably less pro, we just assign the less pro bands to the second stage all night. first timers, bands no one wants to see(gwar), and anyone who can admit that they suck can play on the second stage . maybe it wont work because the room isnt shaped right, but its such a huge room. wont they let us just clear out the whole place ? probably a lot to ask of the venue for a $5 gate. actually , with the quality of the performances being at the level they have been at the last few years, the bigger the venue, the better. lets do it at the crest next year?
I like the idea of doing it at the Crest! That'll cost a pretty penny to rent though, and that's due up front. On the plus side nobody will miss the show cause they have a Crest shift!
I think we will be OK with one stage with all of the pulling together and set shortening that I have heard about.
I would like to set up a dressing room so that people don't have to wait in line for the bathroom to change clothes. I am just unsure how to do it without hanging things from the walls, which may be uncool. Can anyone think of something or does anyone have any room dividers / screens that we can borrow for the night, cover with GWAR blood and return?
This is a good idea. There should be a lot of guitars and bass guitars available. Maybe find your buddy? We are going to start the instruments / backline post tomorrow? At least that's what I think I remember from the roundtable. I forgot to take notes. Also last night we found out that the East Sac roundtable does not know how to party like the Old Sac roundtable knows how to party. Makes perfect sense in retrospect.

Is the problem with 2 stages having enough space?

ReplyDeleteI think 2 stages will end up costing us time. I think, keep sets short, be ready to play when you're up and maybe don't give a lot of time to "hosts".

I will be stocking a medical tent that includes: bottled water, aspirin, band aids, smelling salts, and a sexy nurse
ReplyDeleteThere's been talk of a "tuning station" (I love a station of any kind) so the next band can get that action out of the way beforehand.
ReplyDeleteback up instruments for quick broken string swaps!
