clarification

All right, I was told that my last post was too ambiguous.  So here's a communique from the peeps in charge:

The Bands....for reals this time...

Hey everyone.  With just under a month to go, this year's show is shaping up to be amazing.  And super-long.  So, with so many bands happening we need to get slightly more organized than in previous years.  So, please sign up for your band in THIS THREAD and THIS THREAD ONLY.  Also, we are going to set a cut-off date for sign ups, so let's say get your band in by Friday, March 8th 2013 11:59am PST.  If you can't get it together by then, I don't know what you're doing
.

The Halloween show is closely curated show, so please follow the rules. They are:

- No more than 2 members from an existing band in any Halloween band
- Our equipment manager will be providing a back line (drums, Al's bass amp, guitar amps and mics, possibly key board.) You MUST use it.
- It costs $5 for everyone to get in. This is the year Matt Maxwell pays. Check his hand for a stamp people!
- Clean up after yourselves
- Bring your own and keep it inside.
- Park on 21st street

  4. ABBA is in it to win it.

Equipment question, if more equipment is needed than the backline contains should we discuss with Charles what exactly to bring? That way we can get in and out as quickly as possible.

    1. Yes Charles is your Equipment Manager, just tell him what you need and let him do the math. We will probably have a equipt thread in a few weeks.

    2. What more do you need amp wise. It might be best to just have enough ahead of time.

  9. canadian hip hop has been underrepresented at the halloween show for too long. i am drake and drake is me.
    me being nic.

  10. Historians have already begun writing about when Nirvana played the Halloween 2013 show. It's happening.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Pavement is happening. Outkast is not.
Sorry Becky, I have to wear the afro wig for Beyonce.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ugh, that wig! Back again!

I am so psyched about Drake. I hope Nic wears a yarmulke.

Nobody ever says anything about the show pics. I have more I could post but not if they're besides the point.

  18. Superdrag is heavy and solid.

  19. L boogie up in here.
    (Fugees still happening)

  20. I count 29 bands between this list, other threads and things I have heard in person. That's about twice as many as can play.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It would only be appropriate to have Raffi play at 9am.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Blur and Gorillaz have been set free

    ReplyDelete
  23. Perhaps every band should trim their set down? There should be a real strictness about how many songs or the amount of time each band can play

    ReplyDelete

    1. limited to 1 hour sets!

if there are 30 bands, and each band has a 10 minute window, thats still about 5 hours.

maybe more will drop out/flake as the month goes on

      Delete
  24. Yipes. Split it over two days? The cutoff has occurred right, so at least we can lock it down here.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Locked down!!!

if its 30 bands, 12 minute sets gets us out by midnight.
And yes I know thats impossible.

Can we get soul collective earlier than six?

    -Natalie.

  26. obviously late, but cutting short my brit pop life (blur)in order to pursue my rap career. Sorry if anyone wanted to see blur, unfortunately only amanda and leon wanted to play it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I hope that no one takes this the wrong way, because I say it with love, but I have decided for my sanity that I am doing no more and no less than I have in the past. We have Sol Collective from 6pm - 1am on April 6th. If you want to try to get it earlier, I can give you a number. If you want to do a second day, I will show up and rock out and love it, but what I am doing is 7 hours at the Sol Collective on April 6th. Not everyone can play at that show and I am sorry about that.

    1. To lessen the bummer-ness of above, we are considering a two stage approach and if y'all would cut a few minutes or a song from your set, we can probably do many more than 18 bands, if we are efficient enough it will still be the best 7 hours of the year.

    2. This is a great idea. Maybe have a max set time (15 minutes?). In years past I thought there were given 'limits' but I haven't seen any for this year.

    I like that idea.
A 15 minute max is a good idea too:)

  29. I would like to suggest that if multiple members of your band are in multiple other bands, start considering what band is more important to you. The best rule last year was "no more than two bands per person". I realize that people break the rules inevitably but it does encourage people to think about what they really want to do. So if your vision for "Nirvana*" can be saved for next year, then wait it out.

*Nirvana is playing this year no matter what.

  30. I'm offering $1,000 to any band that drops out. Offer ends at midnight.

  31. Rancid has opted to beat up people in the parking lot, so count us out...

    1. No parking lot, but there is a well placed cemetery across the street.

  32. Maybe we should have to audition for Guphy to get into the show.

  33. Halloween is such a stressful time. Can we compile a new list of all the bands?

    ReplyDelete
  34. hi this is liz and we have been practicing and I just checked back to find out when the actual show date is and see this post. I hope its not too late for us to do Bauhaus as we are already ready to play. Oh and Woodhouse is in our band so I hear that is supposed to help our chances of being included in this incredible event. Thank god I ran into Matt and Karlos and Sonia last night, otherwise I would have felt really left out or something?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hi. So, I'm gonna drop Raffi. I mean, Raffi can do some of the hosting duties if there are multiple hosts. Also, he would bring snacks. But no Raffi set. Too many bands!
    -Dylan

    ReplyDelete
  36. Also, two stages! Twooooooo stages!!

Also, the back line keyboard will be my keyboard, right? It can be. It should be.

    -Dylan

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope we can have two stages so hard. That would be sweet! If that works out can someone manage one of the stages? Charles should only have to do one and y'all are talented musicians so it seems like someone can help out.

    Thanks!

  39. As it appears this festival is currently run by the masses, Beyonce and KISS are looking into other venues with a better backstage rider and premium sponsorship. Our managers are currently attempting to get in touch with a "Mr. Andreoni" about booking Club Vince.

Don't worry, until Club Vince comes through we're still down to do this charity work.

  40. OK all you bands, I think something that would be good would be timing your sets and getting a rough estimate of how long you're playing. 15 minutes seems to have been the standard for a while (except for the Grateful Dead who graciously played for an hour) but if you played, say, 12 minutes instead, that would be a cumulative hour and a half total saved with the amount of bands we have. At any rate, PLEASE don't go over 15 minutes (Can, I'm looking at you!). Let's make this thing work!
